Success Stories

Mango

A young, inexperienced, couple in a nearby town rescued a mother cat, Raisin, and her 4 kittens. Unfortunately, the kittens became ill and they didn't know how to take care of them so they contacted us.

Raisin was a little run down from nursing but was otherwise OK. The kittens, however, were a different story. They had terrible upper respiratory infections and Mango was on the verge of pneumonia. They were put on medicine immediately but one morning Mango stopped breathing and he was rushed to our vet. He was placed on oxygen immediately but we were told there was little hope.  Our Vet explained that if he wasn't breathing on his own by the end of the day then it might be best to let him go. However, Mango did start breathing on his own and one of other foster mom's, a vet nurse, took him. We were all very thankful when we learned that Mango would survive.

Eventually, all his siblings and his Mom were adopted but poor Mango was continually passed over because of the wheezing sound he made when he breathed. We thought he might just be a permanent resident but then a wonderful young man spotted him on the internet, came out to meet him, and adopted him with his breathing condition and all.

Several months later Mango’s Dad sent a picture and we were just totally amazed. His little face hadn’t changed but that small, thin kitten had filled out with a long coat and a tail like a squirrel. What a handsome young man he had become. We knew at that moment, he was in the best of hands.

Caramello

If you don't believe in love at first sight, you haven't met Minerva and Caramello. They make quite a pair. Since Christmas morning, they have been almost inseparable. Minerva had wanted and hinted and asked and teased about having a kitten. She is a sweet and caring young lady who longed for a little bundle of fur to smother with kisses and call her own. Not letting out even a hint, Mom made arrangements from the eastern part of the state to adopt a little orange tabby from Cat Pack. To ensure the surprise, Mom drove all the way out on Christmas Eve. And it was worth it because the kitten took to Minerva as quickly as she took to him. After several "try on" names, Caramello, in honor of Dad's favorite candy bar, seemed just right. He made himself a home in the doll bed, in the specially pitched kitty tent, and snuggled up tight with Minerva. Anything Minerva does just fascinates Caramello. He follows her around the house. He waits in the window for her to come home from school. He will sit and watch her do homework for what seems like hours. He loves playing with the beads in her hair. He even tries to play her games...with some amount of success!! When she is happy he is ready to bounce and frolic. When she is sad, he willingly becomes a soft and fuzzy shoulder to cry on. Having a kitten has turned out to be everything Minerva hoped it would be. And one glimpse of Caramello gazing at "his girl", tells you that the feeling is mutual.
